AccessPhysiotherapy: Navigating AccessPhysiotherapy


In the Books tab in AccessPhysiotherapy, you will find some of the leading current, authoritative text resources organized into categories in the left-hand sidebar, including biomechanics/kinesiology, exercise physiology, ethics in physical therapy, orthopedics, therapeutic modalities, and many other specialties.

Archived Textbooks

  • In the archived textbooks page, browse previous editions of textbooks or other books retired from the site. The archive provides access to older editions of textbooks hosted on AccessPhysiotherapy for purposes of reference.


The Cases tab in AccessPhysiotherapy provides materials for short, targeted case-based learning. They vary slightly, but for each case you get a patient history and systems review, short answer questions, clinical pearls, and references. Cases are durable URL-enabled and can be embedded into a course LMS page. The results of the quizzes can be emailed and collected for a grade, e.g. student to instructor.

Ethics in Physical Therapy

Tutorials demonstrating aspects of ethics in the physical therapy profession, including:

Anatomy and Physiology Revealed (APR)

  • An interactive cadaver dissection experience designed to help you explore human anatomy using cadaver specimens and master physiology concepts through animation with detailed information and audio pronunciations to help build anatomical knowledge. Comprehensive quizzing reinforces learning.
  • Interactive cadaver dissection tool uses cadaver photos combined with layering technique that allows you to peel away layer by layer to reveal structures beneath the surface
  • Each section features animation, dissection, histology, and imaging slides and interactive self-test
  • Great way for students to learn and practice their anatomical knowledge through detailed imaging slides and animations
  • APR is keyboard navigable, offers descriptive text for functionality (buttons were added), is available for mobile delivery, and now has options for students with low vision, such as choice of highlighting colors and arrows within images. Efforts are ongoing to increase accessibility of this technology.

These modules are derived from Brukner and Khan's Clinical Sports Medicine, 4/e. Through videos, quizzes, images, and interactive elements, users will learn clinical approaches to assessment and techniques for managing common injuries and pain:

The Quick Reference section provides clinical reference information to facilitate an accurate, quick diagnosis and provide authoritative treatment answers.

Quick Answers: Physiotherapy

  • This text offers concise outlines of common conditions and disorders at your fingertips whether used as a high-yield review for studying or for quick reference in the clinical setting.
  • It is a point-of-care tool that provides bulleted information about a variety of conditions and including diagnoses and treatment. This information will assist the reader in understanding various diagnoses and provide guidance in the issues associated with them. Each diagnosis follows a similar format for ease of use. Functional goals and impairments are identified to help strengthen documentation and communication with other healthcare professionals. Also included are links to provide additional resources.

Outcome Measures Toolbox

  • Gain quick access to vital tables and figures by topic area from AccessPhysiotherapy resources with links to the tables.
  • This resource compiles all measures (tools, scales, tests) used in patient interactions from the AccessPhysiotherapy resources so clinicians can access them all in one place rather than searching multiple textbooks to locate the exact resource needed.

Study Tools

The Study Tools tab in AccessPhysiotherapy provides: 

  • Review Questions texts which are great for self-assessment with review Q&A designed to help students, residents, and physicians. Users can generate random and custom quizzes from the texts, and the results can be emailed. Users will need to be signed into their MyAccess profile.

The Drug Monographs in AccessPhysiotherapy can be searched, browsed alphabetically, or filtered by generics, trade names, and drug classes. Patient education handouts also are available in English and Spanish. The drug monographs are updated every two weeks.
